پیا مبر صلی الله علیه وسلم فرموده است : «السِّواکُ مَطهَرةٌ للفَمِ مرْضَاةٌ للرَّبِّ». یعنی: «مسواک وسیلهء پاکی دهان و بدست آوردن رضای پروردگار است». «صحیح الجامع الصغیر» (36955). در میان نعمتهای الهی ، دهان و دندان از اهمیت خاصی برخوردار است و به طور مستقیم و غیرمستقیم با تمام اعضای بدن ارتباط دارد ، صحت وسلامتی دندانها تاثیر مستقیمی به صحت وسلامتی سایر اعضای بدن داشته اهتمام وتوجه به دندانها بمثابه اهتمام وتوجه به صحت و سلامتی کل جسم بحساب می آید . انسان از بدو خلقت به حفظ وصیانت دندان توجه داشته و انسانهای اولیه ، همیشه داکتر دندان خود بودند . هدایات دینی نیز با توجه به این نعمت بزرگ، پیروان خود را به حفظ و مراقبت از آن تشویق کردهاند. پیامبر اسلام صلیاللهعلیه وسلم درباره حفظ سلامت این نعمت بزرگ هدایات بیشماری را برای پیروان خویش صادر فرموده است .
