سورہ مسد کا موضوع اس سورت کا مرکزی موضوع ابو لہب اور اس کی بیوی ام جمیل کا انجام ہے، جو اسلام کے سخت ترین دشمنوں میں سے تھے ، اورسزا اور ان کو شدید سرزنش، اور ان کی تباہی کے بارے میں اطلاع ہے،کیونکہ ابولہب ہی وہ تھا جس نے اپنے تمام کام ترک کردیے تھے، اور صرف یہی ذمہ داری لی تھی کہ: رسول اللہﷺ کی دعوتی کام میں خلل ڈالے، اور پوری قوت کے ساتھ لوگوں کو ایمان لانے سے روکے، چنانچہ اس سورت میں اللہ تعالٰی اس کے لیے آخرت میں ایک جلتی ہوئی آگ کی وعید سناتا ہے، جس میں وہ جلے گا، اور یہ عذاب اس کے بیوی کے لیے بھی ہے،کیونکہ وہ بھی اس دشمنی اور اذیت و تکلیف پہنچانے میں شریک تھی۔
