Biography Picture Abdullah Jan Maghmoom, alias, MARCHAKI, PANDA KHAN one of the most popular and distinguished artist of Radio Pakistan Peshawar. He is one of the pioneers and unique radio artist of his time. And very popular due to his distinctive accent and voice, there fore, at that time radio listeners used to wait for his program very anxiously and impatiently In those days radio artist were like celebrities as there was no TV or movies available for the general public. And he enjoyed that position and attention for all his life. He was equally popular amongst the elders. Youngsters and children, male and female. His fascinating stylish, and melodious voice and piercing dialogue attracted the radio listeners and consoled their emotions and inspiration. Abdullah Jan Maghmoom gave new style of broadcasting to Radio Peshawar in Pushto language. It is worth mentioning that Radio Pakistan Peshawar has not been able to find his substitute. Abdullah Jan Maghmoom was born in 1928 a village in Pakistan, the province of K.P.K. called Darmangi. He was born in a religious and educated family, his father was a known scholar; SHEIKH Ul Hadith, Hafiz of the Quran, a known scholar, and religious teacher. After finishing high school, he got a job in studio club- radio Pakistan, in Peshawar. This job made him close to broadcasting, script writing, and drama, plays etc. He became a talk show host, a show called Hujra, and his character was Penda Khan, he became very popular. The program lasted for 31 years and was broadcasted everyday. The seniors NOW can still remember this program. On August 14th, 1947 it was he, who announced that Pakistan got independence from the British (In Pashtu language). His show was very popular among males, females, youngsters, and elders-he had a very nice style of speaking and could be considered the Oprah Winfrey of Pakistan at the time.
