سورۀ النَّجْم اهداف کلی و اساسی نجم را مطالب ذیل تشکیل میدهد . مبارزه با شرك و خرافات مسألۀ وحى و نبوت پيامبر صلى‌الله علیه وسلم. يادآورى قیامت. سورۀ نجم به گفتۀ برخی ازمفسرین اولین سورۀ ای که پیامبر صلی الله علیه وسلم بعد از علنى كردن دعوت خود آن را آشكارا و با صداى بلند در حرم مكۀ مکرمه تلاوت كرد، و مشركان به آن گوش دادند، و همه مؤمنان آن روز و حتى مشركان سجده كردند. به هر حال طوریکه یاد آور شدیم اين سوره به خاطر مكى بودنش بحثهايى از اصول اعتقادى مخصوصاً نبوت و معاد دارد، و با تهديدهاى كوبنده و انذارهاى مكرر به بيدارى هدایت كفار مى پردازد.

The one thing that offends me the most is when I walk by a bank and see ads trying to convince people to take out second mortgages on their home so they can go on vacation. That's approaching evil.
