Essay writting is often organized according to the Introduction - Body - Conclusion (IBC) pattern. Each part of the essay has specific functions that serve important purposes.

 

The Inroduction

  • Gets the readers interest
  • States the topic
  • States or suggests the writer's purpose for writing
  • States the main idea of the article or eassy (called the thesis statement)

The Body Paragraphs

  • Presents main supporting ideas for the thesis statement.
  • Gives supporting information, examples, and explanations to develop ideas in detail

The Conclusion

  • Provies a closing or completion, to the essay.
  • Often summarizes or reviews important ideas in the body of the essay.
